What is Dom/sub power exchange all about anyway?

My take on it all:

A Dom/sub scene is a set container for one person to fully become a guiding channel for the containment, surrender, healing, pleasure and transformation of the other.

The agreement of a Dominant and a submissive playing, joined with the power of intentional ritual space, calls for a container where the Dom can truly take full permission to guide (and be guided by the Dark Love) within the boundary framework previously agreed on, holding sacred the shared intention of the space.

It’s a dance that, when taking place masterfully and in a well-negotiated space, allows for the wisdom and power of the Dark Love to come through and take the sub on an archetypal or personal journey of surrender, expansion and access to their chaos.

Through the consented act of handing the power to the Dom, for the benefit of the sub, they themselves can journey deeply into a space of no-brain. No decision making. No stress around the million things that keep their mind occupied. In this space, they can sink deeply into the abyss of meaning, bliss and peace. And resource themselves in the power of the Dark Light.

When a submissive becomes adept at negotiating boundaries and desires, at bringing their capacity to actively surrender, and at finding the access point to their true submission, the Dom can deeply attune and listen to the submissive’s body's calls. And find in that sacred whisper desires or needs that they themselves may not have found before.

In this dance, when the Dom learns to attune and trust their connection to the dark light, they can take their submissive on an exquisite trip and offer them pleasure, healing, ecstasy and stillness. And also, wounds may be touched. Trauma - big or small - may be hit. When that happens, a potent portal of transformation opens, and beautiful learning and healing opportunities are available.

In a shamanic kink scene, we learn to hone the life force energy as a powerful expression of the sacred, trusting that the Dark Love wants to bring exactly the energy and medicine required. In order to work with it powerfully, a ritual container needs to be created and all players need to be willing to be with what will present itself in the moment. To be available for what the mystery has in store and embark on the journey.

The more we take an effort to set the ritual scene play container and hold it powerfully, the more our intentions will be fueled by the dark light and the more we can truly savor the deep joys and expansive, purposeful, out-of-the-ordinary experiences available in sacred kink scenes. For this, life force energy needs to be honored and welcomed into a place of power, sweetness, intentionality and surrender. Only through our devotion may we find the true point of power for this medicine to run as a force of the Sacred, and may it pour gratefully from that precious space beyond words or concepts.

The possibilities are truly endless once we open ourselves up to the inspiration of our desires and learn to craft a container for their expression masterfully. This is one of the many things we’ll be doing at the Shamanic Kink Immersion in New York this June.

The greatness of our being can only be measured by how gracious we are with the most tender parts of ourselves.

It’s in the hurting of the inner aspects that have lived through heavy pain or harm, that our deepest capacity to love is found.

Here, we can access the kind of love of a parent that jumps through the fire to hold their distressed child. The kind of love we all know we deserve, but maybe haven’t always received.

During the Shamanic Kink Immersion we intentionally create supportive spaces and intentional settings to embrace the most tender and vulnerable parts of ourselves, and listen to them. Let them be, play, release, express, cry and laugh.

These aspects and their experiences were anchored in our psyche when we actually *were* at the grace of our caretakers, sometimes even powerless.

How gorgeous would it be to fully reclaim self-agency and become our own best, *epic* parent? Only then can the true wealth and wisdom of the inner little ones be harnessed. Only then can our inner kids feel safe, once again, to blast their creative power and effortless love into this gorgeous world.

When we engage in the realms of Conscious Kink, there’s another layer of intentionality and care, where communication, attunement and aftercare become paramount to support opening to a wider field of experience and more satisfaction. In Shamanic Kink, the Dominant is often called the Divine Dominant or Guide. A Divine Dominant is competent, confident and holds authority. In order to show up to not just the excitement or even ecstasy available in the realms of BDSM and scene play, but also to the inevitable moment when wounds or even trauma will be hit, as a guide it’s necessary to know many aspects of ourselves and to engage in our own work. Inner Child Work/Play

Episode 1: Inner Child Work/Play

I really resonate with the notion that kinks are desired or lived experiences that exist outside of our realm of conventional, comfortable or usual expression. So what is the meaning of the kinks some of us have? Are they there just because the nature of Eros is simply to expand, experiment, shake things up, express and explore? Do they turn us on because it’s new, different, and fresh? Do they potentially hold a key to a place of deeper expression, a sense of more wholeness and a more embodied way of being, by guiding us to where transformation is available to us? Did Eros, as an expression of the intelligent life force, perhaps find a way to get our attention by creating an attraction to something that otherwise we would not be bothered to explore?

I believe all of the above are true, however I also don’t want to proclaim that all attractions are necessarily ‘intelligent’ or that all turn on means there’s a potential for transformation, healing, or real wholeness. I think it’s clear that sometimes we can get stuck in cycles of getting off on something that may have felt hurtful or not aligned in the past, but somehow offers us a space of familiarity and in a strange way, comfort. This is what Carolyn Elliott calls an ‘existential kink’.

So, I don’t mean to say all kinks or fantasies are meant to be acted out, let alone that they inherently serve some ‘sacred’ purpose. However, like everything in life, the way we approach them and engage with them is key to bringing balance, (self-) love, and ultimately wholeness and connection with the sacred.

A key piece that is often forgotten or bypassed in the realm of deep psychological play that BDSM offers, is that we all used to be children and that our inner children live on inside of us, with their joys, pains and ambitions. Our inner little ones also very often still carry a bunch of charge around unresolved themes of powerlessness, exclusion, not being seen or heard, or different forms of abuse they have had to live through. Why would we even *want* to bypass these tender beings and their loving, authentic, and inspired ways, and potentially re-live traumatic experiences, inside or outside of the container of a scene?

One of the most powerful and deeply nourishing parts of the Shamanic Kink journey is that we hold a container that invites true and authentic expression of our ‘inner little one’ aspects. Here, we co-create a fun and loving space to go deep with our own and each other’s little ones, fostering a community of loved and loving inner children held by their now mature inner parents.

This is a foundational piece in our training, because as our inner children find alignment and community, their safety opens doorways to the trust and surrender necessary to explore a wider range of transformational scenes. It goes without saying that scenes in the Shamanic Kink Immersion are intentional ritual spaces where aspects of ourselves come to seek healing, expression, attunement and love, held by another and by the group field.

Once our inner children are fully here, other aspects of ourselves may feel more comfortable bringing themselves to the table, so that they too may seek expression, love and healing. AND learn to show up as a more attuned and confident guide, Dom or space holder, offering deeper containment and presence to our own and another’s process.

In this sense, Shamanic Kink is not what you think. We ask everyone to bring their favorite stuffed animals to the training so that we can have a paw-tayyy, in a way that you have likely never experienced before :D

So what actually happens at the Shamanic Kink Immersion???

In a nutshell:

Together with the group, Francesca and Terra create a nurturing, close and healing environment where you can find deeper access to parts unseen or forgotten in themselves, or explore areas where they find themselves on the edges, or out of the edges of the conventional framework of what is acceptable or desirable.

In this environment we offer you tools and a structure to address and access wounds, trauma, desires and gifts that may live in those spaces.

The framework we use builds on the tools, toys and techniques of BDSM and uses them in a ritual and transformational setting to support people in working with intergenerational, personal & collective/transpersonal grief/hurt/trauma.

We explore the three pillars of BDSM day by day (roleplay, power exchange, and sensation) and offer participants the invitation to engage in healing and ritual scene play under our guidance and supervision, building up to deeper self-leadership in holding shamanic BDSM containers step by step throughout the week.

The whole week is really one big long interpersonal healing ceremony made up of many rituals, and we put a lot of effort and energy in the ceremonial aspect, and into continually aligning the group energy to intentionality and sacredness.

Life as a Divine Dominant

Sometimes it seems so clear that we have a free choice in life. Supposedly, we are able and aware beings who can take charge of our lives masterfully, and guide our way to the best possible solution for ourselves, our loved ones, and the planet through the choices we make. I wish this for everyone. And also LIFE happens, where all the factors known and unknown deeply influence not just us, but all things in existence.

To think that we are capable of being in charge, with the limited perception and capacity we have as humans in our waking life, is a joke. Especially when it comes to mind-based decision making. But because our societal structures seem to be built around free and personal choice, yet mostly based on a very limited and rational perception of reality, it can feel as if we really are in control, and ‘know’ what we are doing or supposed to be doing.

Often times it’s only when stuff out of our control happens - which simply means life is happening - that we need to find within ourselves the knowing and resources to get clear on what is truly wanting to move us, what is truly here to be expressed through us.

Being able to structure and hold things is essential to creating a harmonious reality for ourselves and the world, but the chaos and mystery is where the magic happens, where evolution shows what is needed NOW.

But how to learn to move consciously and powerfully with the chaos, with the mystery?

With the way things are in our global social-political-economic situation nowadays, who would feel comfortable surrendering to anything. The way ‘policy makers’ choose to continually rape and burn this planet is devastating. Their insane ways of dividing and supposedly ‘ruling’ humanity trickle down – often candidly - into the mainstream consensus reality awareness, which unconsciously ends up supporting their abusive and lost cause of extracting the Earth’s sacred resources for the benefit of a small and privileged group of power seekers.

Can we stand by the sidelines and witness this unreal pillaging? Should we stand up and take the streets, to show our dissatisfaction and rejection of this heartless abuse of power?

What is there to be done, as we move into a time where deep grieving, and with it embracing the chaos of these highly uncertain times, will be the only way through?

A world in distress is a challenging place to be in. How can we manage, let alone harness power in the consensus reality, where power and love have been disconnected from each other in such a tangible way?

As I discovered over the past number of years, engaging in sacred role play can offer great healing and transformational potential. In a space where we consciously and intentionally set up a dynamic where a person holds, guides, even directs another, for their benefit and desired intent, surrender is truly possible. After careful and diligent negotiations of what the space ought to look like and what boundaries need to be held, two people can engage in a deep and sacred dance, inviting space for the mystery to move them.

Creating a time for realignment with the sacred heart of all existence. That dark and empty space where Love emanates from, pouring itself timelessly into All.

The sacredness can be felt deeply in our bones when this knowing lands. There’s no way around it; what needs to be is what needs to be. Words don’t do it right, can never do it right.

In this space of knowing where we come from and who we are, humbleness, acknowledgement and surrender are all natural, and they come with a deep sense of purpose. The purpose of being an alive and potent human, in this world and in this life. Eternally jobless, yet thriving with inspiration and potential to fill this one life with joy and blessings through the sacred vessel that we are.

What comes next from this space, no-one knows…

For me, what most recently came out of it was the Shamanic Kink Immersion, teaching people to engage in exactly this ^^ with fellow priestess Francesca Gentille over a 7-day sacred & ceremonial immersive.

Our next edition taking place in November 2023 specifically addresses the emerging collective need to move with grief and atonement masterfully. It is going to be a powerful portal to engage in the painful, ecstatic and transcendent art of letting go into the chaos and mystery, particularly needed at this time on the planet. Apart from that you will of course also learn to engage in all kinds of ways to work with pleasure, Eros, grief, pain and everything in between in a supported way, both in the surrender as well as in the Master polarity.

All of this will happen in a safely held, inclusive, supportive, experimental, trauma-informed, pleasure/Eros-positive, and nourishing interpersonal group container.

What you think you know about BDSM or Kink is probably wrong...

Most people I know learn about kink through sensationalized media. Leather. Whips. Chains. Ball gags. Someone tough towering over someone weak.

People confuse DOMINEERING with DOMINANT.

To be DOMINEERING is to be a tyrant, an arrogant narcissist. Someone who is overcompensating for insecurities by putting on THE TOUGH MASK. The Tyrant always has to PROVE their authority because they fear their own weakness.

To be DOMINANT is to confident, competent, and hold authority. To be a wise guide and collaborator. The DOMINANT is emPOWERed. There is nothing to prove when we own our own competence.

People confuse CODEPENDENCY with SUBMISSION.

To be CODEPENDENT is to always worry if one is good enough. To over give to get love. To focus on others because it is too painful to look at oneself. To always have to prove one's worth.

What most people don't know is that the ROOTS of what we play with in the sensation, roles, and power exchange of BDSM goes back over 20,000 years to our ANCIENT ANCESTORS.

Hear the drums. Feel the earths heart beat. Our blood, breath, and bone in harmony with the spheres, our offering to our people, our healing of our world.

Cacao as a Healer for our Times

As the inadequacy of modern society’s systemic structures is starting to show more and more, and the main models are ever more clearly starting to crack, disintegration is becoming imminent. As contemporary western culture learns to mature, attune and listen more deeply to the subtle - and ever less subtle - cries of our planet, the tragedy and wounds of our ancestors’ choices become tangible and real. Ready to be worked with and addressed by those of us able and willing.

The hurt, sadness and grief for how humans (as fractals of the systemic bull sh..t we were raised in) have been bulldozing the planet’s and their own bodies’ feelings, omens and signals, is surfacing more powerfully than ever before. I’m seeing it in the personal realities of people all over the world, as well as in the Earth body that is shivering, shaking, releasing, burning and purging… Flooding itself with the tears of hurts long forgotten by its children, so that they would listen and reclaim what is theirs to heal and transform now. The messaging is loud and clear. What more does it take to listen?

As a sensitive and empathic child growing up in an industrialized country, I have felt for a long time already how detrimental the consensus reality was for my soul. Even though I’m grateful to have received beautiful foundations, taxpayer-paid quality education, and many other things supportive to my wellbeing through the socio-political model in Belgium, it’s becoming increasingly clear how deeply unsatisfying and unsustainable the produce/consume/discard-based societal models are to our Earth and to humanity itself.

The contemporary way of living, or at least the way that that many humans live in the modern societies, is on its way to disintegration. What will come next, nobody knows. Only through embracing the sadness, grief, hurt, fear - and all the rest - will we be able to understand what the rightful way for humans on Earth will be in times to come.

As the world will shape itself through this process, how can we remain in tune with ourselves and with our own empowered truth? AND, also be agents of change, supporting a new, Earth-based culture to grow, recycled from the crumbling mess of a world which was never made for humans to really be human in?

For a number of years already, I’ve been making choices to allow my life to flow in a way that is nourishing to my soul, supportive to my system and to my being’s creative expression. To be honest, since 2014 already I’ve been on an ongoing journey embracing my emotions of grief, resentment, anger, fear, etc. related to the pain of growing up in a western society as a free spirit. An incredible help on this path – yes, even a catalyst for it – has been the ceremonial Cacao medicine.

Cacao is a subtle yet powerful medicine. It invites us to create a space to simply be deeply present to what is. It offers a whole other layer of experience and depth to the most ‘basic’ activities. She helps us to think less, and feel more. Once we become capable of witnessing and moving with what is alive in the present moment, many gifts are available to us in a much simpler and a much more accessible way than we may think. Cacao has helped me tremendously to be able to create spaces to welcome deeply what is alive in this moment, without needing to micromanage or understand. Afterwards, often times things start to make sense. But the true power of transformation lies in being able to navigate with awareness the mystery of what’s available in every moment.

Through tending to the emotions, and deeply engaging with the challenges and invitations from life as they came up, I have come to an increasing understanding of what it is that this planet wants and needs from me, and how I can be of service to this world, in alliance with Cacao as a plant teacher. Over time, I started to get clearer on what my real needs are, and I’ve also started to understand that a lot of my turn-on and excitement in life is related to being of service to this transforming world.

As the digital revolution is soaring, there’s an increasing tendency for our lives to become mind-based, and less and less about tending to our bodies and the Earth. Nonetheless, it’s through deep connection with our bodies that the Earth speaks to us. It’s through tending to the precious day to day, hands-on experiences of natural life that we get to feel – and BE - the true creative magic as it unfolds in the present moment. It’s through our sensitivity and presence in the body that we can be intimately attuned to what life wants to bring to us, through us, as a powerful human walking this Earth in honor and gratitude. As long as we run with patterns of disengaging and escaping the ‘ugly’ feelings in us, all of this power and precious, wholesome expression of our full humanity remains unavailable.

In my work as a transformational space holder, Cacao has been a tremendous gift to help me go deep, and *move* with the full spectrum of feelings and emotions available. Cacao continues to offer an amazingly clear and conscious space for witnessing, expressing and integrating parts of me that are hurt, forgotten, blemished, unseen.

Everybody wants to surrender to something in life. How and what is the question.

In a world where our template for leadership and domination is one of historical abuse, distortion and control of power, why would anyone feel safe in surrendering?

How freeing it can be however, to find a place where someone else takes charge because we want it and they do it FOR US?? A space where boundaries and desires can be voiced and met. A space where the constant pressure and mind-babble related to the choice-making process happening in every single moment in life can fall away. A space where deep rest and safety come together with the visceral knowing that someone else is fully present and looking after us, and entirely focused on our every move.

In the sensitive attention of another being listening deeply, protecting our space with heart and soul, the body opens up and speaks. Here, it can speak its deepest primal desires, weep its oldest tears, and reclaim its awe, gratitude and devotion for the generosity of life itself.

AND it takes a ravenous, powerful presence to grant a submissive such a space. About Polarity and Non-Duality

***For a while already I've been going back and forth between feeling masculine, feminine, all of it (or none)...

I've had periods where I've felt deeply gorgeous and sparkling wild wearing heels and shiny dresses. Trusting the pulse of my sexual expression and receptivity to bring healing and power to myself and others. I've had periods where my sexy inner Dom sets the scene for the grace of my wisdom and careful holding of my own and other's transformation to come through.

***For a while already I've been going back and forth between loving women, loving men, loving all of it (or none)...

I had periods where, in diving deep in the receptive polarity with men, my sexual ecstasy brought me to unseen delight and deep connection with the otherworldly realms. I've had periods where I was the one providing containment as I admired the wild snake of Eros in my femme lovers soar in my incisive embrace.

I had times where I lived in the forest or even the urban jungle with almost no money, totally able to do everything my heart desired. In deep surrender to the moment and the guidance of life. I've had times that brought me lots of gorgeous opportunities that I acted on powerfully and worked hard to create the dreams I was calling in from a directive space.

***For a while already I've found myself embracing and moving with all of the polarities...

And it's been fucking hard. Continually, over and over again, whoever I think I am eventually gets divinely obliterated, to only become another part of how life can act through me, and what I can draw on during this short time of Shadi in this human body here on Earth.

But the learnings stay, the learnings are never lost.

So many of my learnings in becoming a shape shifter, and therefore a more available channel for what Spirit wants to bring through me to this planet, have come through ritual scene play.

I'd like to bring some awareness to how incredibly potent it can be to set a scene to support us in finding and integrating hurt or forgotten parts of ourselves.

There's so much stigma around BDSM (me just already having to write it that like that proves the point) and I found my own way through the vast and wild arena of it by simply following my heart and desires. It involved a lot of falling and getting up again, using the tools I'd been given, getting hurt and then inspired again, and continually becoming a better learner... But now looking back I can see clearly that I was being guided to understand how powerful a practice ritual scene play is.

You may be familiar with psychodrama as a healing or transformational tool. I personally feel like this kind of practice has tremendously helped me become a more integrated person and it's brought me gorgeous moments of healing and remembering.

But what happens when the sexual wounds, desires, fears and expressions come in? Plenty of spaces offer therapeutic or transformational work that may somehow touch on these wounds but then actually also consider them too tricky or a no-go area.

Because of my deep dive within the tantric, spiritual, sexual and shamanic realms over the past 10 years, and the embodiment and healing practices it's provided me, I've found a powerful permission slip to journey into the realms of ritual scene play (involving the sexual wounds and desires) in my own personal life.

Through this journey I've embraced the fact that I'm kinky, that I'm a switchy witch (although mostly Dominant), genderfluid and pansexual, and basically that it's a natural human quality to shape shift.

Bringing the transformational tools of psychodrama, conscious b:D:s:M, transformational ritual and sacred sexuality together has proven to provide an amazing array of possibilities for deep healing and pleasure, finding a deep sense of purpose in life, and integration of soo many precious parts of the personal and transpersonal self.

Francesca Gentille, Temple Priestess and Kinky Witch, and myself are teaching the 7-day in-person container of deep immersion and embodiment in the Shamanic Kink realm. I'm excited to finally bring together all the alchemical pieces I've learned to be able to support humans of all expressions wanting to dive deep in this realm, and to teach people how to deeply contain others in their journeys of transformation, healing and play.

This training is open to anyone who already has some experience (at least 6 months) in kink/BDSM. The training is designed to help you to truly 'get' how vast this arena and its possibilities are, and to journey in it masterfully and with a certain degree of ease and a solid foundational toolkit to harness the energetics of conscious scene play.
